Srinagar: Chief Engineer Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) Er Aijaz Ahmad Dar has said that improvement in power supply in Kashmir is a reality this winter as long power outages were reduced to short duration power cuts in both urban centres and rural areas of Kashmir valley. The KPDCL Chief Engineer said that people in valley were provided more daily energy this year in comparison to last year
Talking to Kashmir Horizon Er Aijaz Ahmad Dar said that on the night of January 3rd, the Kashmir valley received its first snowfall of the winter season, resulting in outages from11kv and 33kvs feeders in North Kashmir but swift Restoration teams and Squads stationed in Divisional and Sub Divisional Control Rooms leapt into action and fault correction was commenced in the adverse weather conditions.
He further said “the restoration procedure was ensured and thanks to the tireless efforts of field employees, 95 per cent of restoration was completed within 8 hours following a fresh snowfall occurrence, with the remaining 5%, in remote locations, completed within 24 hours”.
Stating that “Due to overnight snowfall on 3rd Jan 2022, the load served reduced to 1394 MW (at 9:00 AM) against normal of 1550-1600 MW, which was restored by evening”, the Chief Engineer KPDCL said “ Similarly, the load which had reduced to 1321 MW on 6th Jan (9:00 AM) was restored to normal (1590 MW at 7:00 PM)”.
Chief Engineer further also said “during the intervening night of the 7th and 8th of January, Heavy snowfall resulted in a load reduction of 635 MW (at 6:30 AM) but by the evening, the load returned to 90% of normal (1306 MW at 7:00 PM). However, nighttime snowfall caused a resurgence of problems, which were cleared in short time. By the evening of January 9, the normal load had been restored (Above 1500 MW)”.
“He also said that even on the snowiest days, barring January 8, KPDCL was able to offer more daily energy (over 350 MUS per day) than the previous year due to its efforts and quick restoration work.
