Srinagar/: Expressing concern over disruption of power and drinking water supply due to incessant rains and snow fall in Kashmir valley including Khansahib and Budgam areas, Chairman People’s Democratic Front Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen has urged the Govt to put in extra measures to mitigate hardships of people.
In a statement issued on Saturday Hakeem while expressing serious concern over the disruption of essential services due to incessant rains and snow, has pooh-poohed government claims about preparedness, in anticipation, to deal with the situation arising out of the snow fall. He said, despite red alert warning issued by the Metrology department, the administration has failed to face the situation. “Not only electric and drinking water supply has got disrupted, but water stagnation has affected even transport movement in far-flung areas of Khansahib area putting the people especially patients to great inconvenience.” Meanwhile due to closure of Kashmir highway, availability of essential commodities has also been hit badly putting the consumers are at the mercy of hoarders, he added. “Prices of essential commodities in the market were beyond the purchasing capacity of common men,he said.” Adding that administration has been caught napping, despite taking high-level meetings about the preparedness of the government in the wake of routine snow fall and rains and formation of disaster management teams at various levels to overlook the situation there is nothing tangible visible on the ground .
PDF Chairman has urged the government to revitalize its men and machinery to provide immediate safety to the people. ” Electricity and drinking water supply need to be restored on war footing basis besides removing stagnant waters from the low lying areas, were people are reeling under the threat of flood like situation”, Hakeem stressed . He has urged the government to restore traffic movement on National Highway on emergency basis to maintain supply position in the valley.
