Srinagar: Mayor Srinagar Junaid Mattu along with Commissioner SMC Athar Amir Saturday visited newly inaugurated St. Luke’s Church at Dalgate Saturday to greet the Christian community on Christmas.
They both congratulated the church authorities on opening of church for worshippers after a period of thirty years and greeted entire Christian Community onntje occassion of Christmas.
The church which was reopened after more than 30 years witnessed Christmas celebration after restoration and conservation work was done as part of Srinagar Smart City Project said Mayor Srinagar Mattu on the occassion.
Mattu further said that This is one of the most beautiful projects that has successfully been accomplished.
Commissioner SMC/ CEO Smart City Athar on the occassion said that the church had undergone severe structural damages & decay including the damages to the foundation & walls, disintegration of the roof, vegetation outgrowths, accumulation of silt and debris, decay of the khatmband roofing etc.
He expressed gratitude to his Srinagar Smart City Team, Tourism department and the local artisans & works-men who made this possible within a short span of time.
The restoration and conservation of church work was done with the help of local worksmen and artisans who have restored its glory back. It is a great moment for my whole team and our city said Athar Amir khan.
