JKRLM celebrates Constitution Day at Srinagar

Srinagar :Celebrating Constitution Day, JKRLM Friday organised an event where Mission Director, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar led the reading of Preamble to officers and officials at Srinagar office.
While reading out the Preamble and Charter of principles enshrined in the preamble of Constitution, Dr Sehrish urged upon all officers/officials to maintain sense of brotherhood, social, economical and political justice, liberty of thought and expression, equality among all citizens.
Later, she presided over a concluding ceremony of weeklong sanitation programme oraganised to promote hygiene practices among Self Help Group members (SHG) by Jammu Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission.
The programme has been launched to coincide with the countrywide Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration.
The National Sanitation week was organized by JKRLM from 20th November to 26th November across Jammu & Kashmir wherein the SHG members promoted under Mission participated in the programme.
On the occasion, Mission Director JKRLM, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar said that the GOI had taken up the awareness campaign for a week, JKRLM had covered 90 percent and above of the rural areas of each household through awareness campaign.
Adding further the Mission director said that JKRLM in collaboration with line departments are making every possible effort to generate awareness among the masses and linking them with concerned departments for promotion of Open Defecation Free (ODF) blocks. The major focus of such campaigns is behavior change, communication and imbibing the community for maintaining hygiene practices especially in wake of COVID -19 pandemic, she added.
While highlighting the aim of the programme the Mission Director said that the programme was meant to sensitize the community about basic health issues such as menstrual hygiene, hand washing, usage of toilets, personal hygiene.
Adding further the Mission Director said that the sanitation programme has the potential to accept the challenges faced by the women and ways to combat the ignorance and superstitions with respect to the unhygienic practices. The aim is to normalise new ways of gender integration in sanitation and maintaining the ecosystem of the natural environment.
She also said every individual is responsible for protecting the rights of others besides being conscious of creating a neat and clean environment.
Dr Sehrish added that several sanitation oriented activities were carried out by the self help group members across Jammu and Kashmir during the week.
She applauded the efforts put by the SHG members for the whole week for the success of the campaign.
