Srinagar : Kashmir University’s Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) on Friday organised a special lecture on ‘Gender Equality in light of NEP-2020.’
Registrar Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir delivered the lecture, in online mode, to the participants of ongoing refresher course in gender studies.
Asserting that the National Education Policy-2020 is a holistic document that puts a great emphasis on gender inclusivity in education, Dr Mir said it’s important to reconfigure the current education system, wherever required, to meet the objectives of this flagship policy in true sense.
“The NEP-2020 not only calls for universal access of all to quality education, it also talks of promotion of inclusive and equitable education in accordance with the Goal 4 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals,” he said, urging academics, policy-planners and other stakeholders to join hands to realise that the vision and mission of NEP-2020 translate into reality on the ground.
Dr Mir stressed on inclusion of skill development courses in the curriculum, especially on gender sensitivity, to attain gender equality in the higher education institutions (HEIs). He also discussed about the emphasis of NEP on early childhood care, restructuring curriculum and pedagogy, reforming assessment and examination and investing in faculty development and their evaluation.
In his welcome address, Director UGC-HRDC Prof Mushtaq Ahmad Darzi highlighted how gender equality can be achieved in higher education sector for a balanced educational sphere. He drew attention of the participants towards the NEP 2020 which seeks to bring qualitative and quantitative reforms in the country’s education system.
He thanked the university administration, especially Vice Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad and Registrar Dr Mir, for its continuous support to the HRDC’s endeavors.
Dr Sumeer Gul, Coordinator HRDC, conducted proceedings of the lecture session and also delivered a vote of thanks.
