Srinagar: Srinagar recorded the first sub-zero night temperature while other parts of the Kashmir valley continue reeling under the freezing point temperature throwing normal life out of gear on Sunday.
A Meteorological Department Official said, Capital Srinagar recorded the seasons coldest night with minimum temperature dipped to minus 0.9 degree Celsius for the first time against the 0.1 degree Celsius recorded previous day.
Cold breeze with a foggy atmosphere continues to prevail making life miserable as the sun plays hide and seek in Srinagar.
Famous Dal Lake and Mughal gardens on the Boulevard road were engulfed with thick fog and vehicles were playing with headlights on.
Tourist resort of Pahalgam continued to remain the coldest place in the Kashmir valley where the minimum temperature settled at minus 3.5 degree Celsius for the second consecutive day today.
The famous ski resort of Gulmarg was recorded as minus 1.8 degree Celsius against the minus 2.6 degree Celsius a day ago.
A report from Gulmarg said, Although the night temperature showed a bit of improvement but weather remained cold with fog engulfed around with low visibility in the valley of meadow. Tourists were seen moving around wearing long coats and hand gloves to escape the chilly weather there.
He said Kokernag in south Kashmir also showed a further dip in the night temperature, recorded as minus 0.3 degree Celsius against the 0.4 degree Celsius on Saturday. In frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara the minimum temperature was minus 1.3 degree Celsius against the minus 1.1 degree Celsius a day ago showing a further dip in the night temperature.
Qazigund on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway recorded minimum temperature at minus 1.2 degree Celsius against the minus 1.0 degree Celsius a day ago a few notches above, the MeT official said.
The weather is likely to remain dry in Kashmir valley, the MeT official added.
