Police intensifies crackdown on drug smugglers

“14 drug peddlers arrested across Kashmir , contraband substances recovered”

Srinagar: Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested 14 drug peddlers in a series of actions across Kashmir and also recovered contraband substances and cash ₹2.70 lacs from their possession.
In a statement issued on Tuesday police said “In Pulwama, earlier three drug peddlers were arrested from Gudoora Bridge Newa and on their disclosure instant raid was conducted at the residence of one drug peddler identified as Junaid Khurshid @Junni Katta, son of Khurshid Ahmad Dangroo resident of Zasoo Tahab”, adding that “during raid brown sugar, huge quantity of poppy straw and cash ₹2,70,471/- apparently sale proceeds of drugs were also recovered from the possession of the above named accused”. Stating that apart from the said drug peddler nine other drug addicts were also arrested in a series of actions in the vicinity “, police in it’s statement further said that a case vide FIR No. 305/2021 under relevant sections of law stands already registered in Police Station Pulwama and further investigation is in progress.
Police in it’s above referred statement also said “officers at a checkpoint established on Tahab Road intercepted an individual moving in suspicious circumstances”, adding that “during search, 1200ml of Codeine were recovered from the possession of the above named accused who been identified as Bashir Ahmad son of Ab Ahad Ganai resident of Tahab Pulwama and he was also arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody”. Police in the above quoted statement further said that a case vide FIR No. 308/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Pulwama and further investigation is in progress.
In another instance, acting on specific information about drug dealings police party from Police Station Litter conducted a specific raid at Village Naina Batapora area of Pulwama. During search, 1Kg of Charas was seized from the residential house of one Khurshid Ahmad Koka son of Gh Mohd Koka resident of Naina Batapora. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No 112/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation in progress.
According to the above quoted police statement in yet another similr incident in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district a police team led by SHO PS Kangan under the supervision of SDPO Kangan Yasir Qadri apprehended a drug peddler and recovered 140gms charas and 06 Kgs of Bhangpatri from his possession after which he was identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Bajard son of Fazal ur Rehman resident of Laman Wangath. “Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 132/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Kangan and further investigation is in progress”, the police statement reads further.
In it’s statement police also said that in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district officers at a checkpoint established near Hardpanzoo Crossing intercepted two persons roaming suspiciously and during searches recovered 220gms of Charas from their possession and were arrested on the spot after which they were identified as Firdous Ahmad Sheikh resident of Larbal Dassan & Nisar Ahmad Bhat resident of Harda Latina. “Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 156/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Beerwah and investigation set into motion”, reads the police statement.
In the concluding para of the above referred statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood and warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, stating therein that actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
