Srinagar: Night in Kashmir valley and Ladakh turned more colder due to further dip in temperature as Drass, Leh, Kargil and ski resort of Gulmarg were the coldest places in the two regions.

A Meteorological Department official said, Drass, the second coldest place after Siberia in the world, was shivering at minus 11.9 degree Celsius, while Leh town in Ladakh region was recorded minus 7.7 degree Celsius against the minus 6.4 degree Celsius previous night making life more tough for the people living there.

He said Kargil in Ladakh region where night temperature was recorded minus 6.4 degree Celsius yesterday plunged further to minus 7.7 on Sunday with cold breezes flowing around.

The famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir was recorded minus 3.0 degree Celsius which was a degree above yesterdays minimum temperature recorded there, the MeT official said. However, the sun appears during the day much to the joy of the tourists staying there to enjoy the snow.

Similarly, at tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir was recorded minus 2.0 degree Celsius against the minus 0.4 degree Celsius a day ago, while at Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway was recorded a minimum of 6.2 degree against the minimum of 5.2 degree on previous night showing an increase of one degree in night temperature, the MeT official said.

He said, Kupwara in frontier Kashmir district recorded 3.1degree Celsius against the 4.8 degree Celsius previous night, a few notches below while it was 5.2 degree Celsius at Kokernag in south Kashmir against the 4.2 degree Celsius the previous night.

In Srinagar the sun appeared with a clear sky, but cold breezes were running around. People throng traditional Sunday markets on Poloview, Residency road and Lal Chowk for making purchases of warm jackets, sweaters, Coats, blankets and Quilts besides other necessary items required during the winter months.
The MeT said dry weather will continue in Jammu and Kashmir during this week.
