Srinagar: Police on Wednesday said that it has busted a gang in Anantnag and also arrested several accused persons on recovery of eighteen stolen vehicles in the south-Kashmir district.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday police said that police Station Anantnag received information through reliable sources that a number of vehicles stolen from various parts of the country are plying in Anantnag town and its outskirts which are being used for carrying out various criminal activities and accordingly a case vide FIR No. 411/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered and investigation was initiated.
Stating that Subsequently, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of Dy SP Hqrs Anantnag was constituted to investigate the matter, Police in it’s statement further said that during the course of investigation, after strenuous efforts 18 vehicles including three two wheelers suspected to be stolen vehicles were recovered and 10 vehicles have so far been established to be stolen vehicles about which FIRs are registered in various police stations of the country.
Police in it’s statement further more said that credentials are being ascertained about remaining vehicles which prima-facie appear to be stolen only, adding therein that during the investigation, as of now five accused persons found involved in theft and possession of stolen vehicles have been arrested even as further investigation into the matter is going on and efforts are on to recover all the other stolen vehicles mainly plying in Anantnag.
In the concluding para of it’s statement police appealed people not to buy any suspicious non-J&K registered vehicle from any unauthorized dealers/persons and buy vehicles only after proper verification from the Police and concerned RTOs.
