New Delhi: As government is set to brief floor leaders in Parliament about the Afghanistan situation on Thursday, leaders have said they are waiting to hear what government has to say.
Even as government faced a united and aggressive Opposition in the Monsoon session over several issues, the mood of the political parties appeared mellowed, as leaders said they wanted to hear the government first.
“We are waiting to hear what government will say about the situation. It is a sensitive issue, and a matter of national security,” Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury told UNI.
He said they will seek clarifications if required.
National Conference MP from Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag, Hasnain Masoodi spoke on similar lines.
“Let us see what government has to say, we will ask questions based on that,” he said.
He said the issue was a matter of grave concern especially for Jammu and Kashmir.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Patel has called a meeting of all floor leaders in Parliament on Thursday where External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will brief MPs about the situation in Afghanistan.
Afghanistan was taken over by Taliban on August 15 after the extremist group entered Kabul and president Ashraf Ghani fled the country.
Concerns have been expressed over evacuation of Indians, as well as the long term security implications for India.
