Srinagar: Traffic was disrupted for several hours on Baramulla-Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) road for several hours on Tuesday due to landslides, triggered by heavy overnight rain in border town of Uri.
Officials sources said that traffic on the road was suspended after a massive landslide occurred at Lagama in Uri this morning. However, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the strategically important road, immediately put into service machines and men to cleared the landslides.
They said traffic was later resumed on the road after several hours.
The road was being used for cross-Line of Control (LoC) trade between Salamabad, Uri to Muzaffarabad, capital of POK. However, all trade activities were suspended in April 2019 following directions by Union Home Ministry that it was being misused by anti national elements.
Traders and those associated with cross-LoC trade are demanding resumption of the trade activities between two separated parts of J&K.
