Srinagar: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI) on collaborating for skill development programs in the electronic sector with institute.
The MoU was signed by Director, NIT Srinagar Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal and ESSCI represented by its officiating Head, Mr. Piyush Chakraborty to meet the requirement of National Institute of Technology Srinagar, expansion for creating a skill development ecosystem in the Institute.

This MoU aims to set out the framework for working relationship between ESSCI and NIT Srinagar.
Director, NIT Srinagar Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal said it is indeed of matter of great pleasure as two technological institutions are coming together to sign a historic MoU. “We need to introduce courses that are more relevant to our students and relevant to industries, explore different options,” he said.
Prof. Sehgal said MoU will also help the students to connect to the various electronic industries in the nation and the students would get benefitted with their internships and placements programs.
On the occasion ESSCI Officiating Head, Mr. Piyush Chakraborty said they are confident that this partnership will help us produce industry-ready graduates who are prepared to contribute towards the fast-growing global society. The MoU between NIT Srinagar and ESSCI will benefit both the institutes, he said.
Chakraborty said ESSCI and NIT Srinagar will jointly work for mapping Skills requirements of the industry demand and student requirements. We will also extend our support in the development of training eco-System for imparting skill-based training in electronics and will create awareness about the skills program student and teaching community of NIT Srinagar, he said.
Registrar NIT Srinagar, Prof. Kaiser Bukhari said NIT Srinagar will explore the opportunity of setting up Centre of Excellence (CoE) in consultation with industries & ESSCI support for imparting state-of-the-art training to students.
“It is a good beginning between the two intuitions and in the future we will also explore more possibilities,” Prof. Bukhari said.
HOD, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Prof Ajaz Hussain Mir hoped that collaboration between two institutions will prove beneficial for skill development and placement of students.
He said faculty of the department is highly qualified and skilled and assured that students of NIT Srinagar are hard-working and have a high sense of responsibility.
“The ESSCI scheme of skill development was connected to NIT Srinagar through its Innovation, Incubation & Entrepreneurship Development (IIED), Centre headed by Professor Saad Parvez, who expressed his gratitude to ESSCI and said that it will primarily benefit the students in several ways.
“Skill and Knowledge are one of the main augmentations of the economic growth in the region, so our aim in NIT Srinagar is to train our students in such a way that they are made industry ready.’ he said.
Dr. Saad said the kind of knowledge and skill development program which we want to impart in students would eventually help in becoming successful entrepreneurs, skill forces for the nation so that everyone can get benefitted out of it. The collaboration will further strengthen the industry-academia programs.
“As ESSCI is one of the major players in the electronic center, which can really play a significant role in imparting skill to students and after signing this MoU, the future roadmap is build up,’ he said.
Prof. Saad said the collaboration would further develop our electronics and communication department by strengthening their infrastructure and human resources requirements.
Earlier Mr. Saleem Ahmed, Vice President – Business Development, ESSCI presented the presentation about the working and brief idea of ESSCI and its various activities. While Varun Bhatia GM – Standards (ESSCI) enlightened about the roadmap, possibilities of the MoU with the NIT Srinagar.
Regional Manager Haryana, Punjab, Himanchal Pardesh, J&K, , Mr. Virender Dhiman was also present at the MoU signing ceremony and stated that MoU will bring these two intuitions closer and will benefit both students and faculty members.
