89 NIT Srinagar students qualify GATE exam

Srinagar: At least 89 students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar have qualified Graduate Aptitude Test For Engineering (GAT)-2021 examination of which the results were declared on Saturday.

As per the statement issued here on Sunday, out of total of 212 students who appeared in GATE examinations at NIT Srinagar, 89 have qualified the examinations with good ranks.

The figures included 35 students of Civil Engineering, 14 in Engineering Services Examination, 12 Mechanical, 11 in Electrical Engineering, 8 in Information Technology, 4 in Chemical Engineering, 4 in Computer Science & Engineering and 01 from Metallurgical and Materials Engineering department have qualified for the GATE exams.

Director NIT Srinagar, Prof Dr Rakesh Sehgal has expressed gratitude to the qualifiers and congratulated them on their success.

“The faculty in NIT is working for the students. They will not leave any stone unturned for the overall development of students. It is a proud movement for the NIT Srinagar and we will continue this dedication in future also,” he said.

Dr Sehgal urged students to make the best possible use of available resources. He also appreciated the tireless effort of faculty members.

“Despite COVID-19 challenges, NIT Srinagar did not allow students to suffer academics. We taught students online as well as offline classes,” he said.

Registrar NIT Srinagar, Prof Kaiser Bukhari also extended warm greetings to the qualifiers and urged them to work hard to achieve success.

“It is proud movement for the institute. There is no second option to hard work. I advise them to serve the society dedicatedly and selflessly,” he said.

On Saturday, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay declared the result of the GATE in which 7,11,542 appeared out of which 1,26,813 candidates have qualified for the prestigious exam across India.

Meanwhile, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Saturday organized a special virtual session on International Happiness Day in which Mumbai-based Tedx speaker and founder of 60 Bits Consulting Kala Diwanji hosted the session for teaching and non-teaching staff of the institute.

The session was hosted by the Department of Humanities Social Science and Management (HSS &M), to mark the observance of International Day of Happiness–“HAPPINESS INKED”.

The virtual session was attended by Director NIT Srinagar, Prof Sehgal who inaugurated the event with words of wisdom and emphasized on the role of happy minds.

He said such events are important in every professional institute, especially for the academicians and students of NIT Srinagar.

“Such initiatives are being conducted to ensure a stress-free atmosphere in the campus. The aim of the session was to boost and motivate our teaching and non-teaching staff for positivity and leadership skills,” Dr Sehgal said.

Ms Kala Diwanji, Co-Founder of 60 Bits Consulting was the facilitator for the session. She has more than 20 years of professional experience in Corporates, NGOs, and administrative bodies and wears many hats during her career from holding a Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry to being a Creative Facilitator.

During the online session, the facilitator used a tree as a metaphor to understand that happiness lies inside us and most of the times, we forget that.

The session was highly engaging and interactive. It included activities along with the opportunity to reflect and learn from peers.

“External sources of happiness are never eternal. Most of the times, we fall prey to it was discovered by participants using creative arts,” she said.

Diwanji said happiness is a skill set which people can do with their positive actions rather than keeping it at intellectual level of positive mindset.

“The framework of 3H- Head, Heart, and Hands was used to learn how people can get happiness inked in their daily lives that can help us overcome challenges,” she said.

Diwanji said there is importance of finding passion and power of gratitude to get happiness inked was another key take away from the session.

The online session included live conversation during which they shared ideas and their stories.

Participants discovered a happiness formula which they can practice daily and session touched briefly the concepts mentioned in the two popular books “Success Principles” and “Ikigai”.

Head of Department (HOD) Department of HSS&M Abdul Liman hailed the efforts of Director NIT Srinagar for organizing such events in the campus.

On the virtual session, vote of thanks was presented by Dr Mohd Rafiq, Assistant Professor, Department of HSS&M. He thanked the facilitator, Ms Kala Diwanji for her valuable insight on the pursuit of happiness.

He also expressed his gratitude to Director NIT Srinagar, Dr Sehgal for his consistent and unconditional support for the Department of HSS&M.

Dr Rafiq also appreciated his role as a leader for encouraging the initiatives taken by the department. He also praised the efforts of the organizing team of the event.
