Dozens of far flung, remote villages remain cut off in north Kashmir

Srinagar: Border towns of Keran and Machil, besides dozens of far flung and remote villages, including near the Line of Control (LoC), remained cut off for the second successive day on Sunday following slippery road conditions due to fresh snowfall in north Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the border town Gurez and its adjoining areas in Bandipora remained cut off from rest of the valley since January 2021 due to accumulation several feet of snow.
However, traffic was plying normally to border town of Karnah.
“Traffic to dozens of far-flung and remote areas, including Machil, Keran and Tanghdar, in north Kashmir district of Kupwara remained suspended for the second successive day due slippery road conditions and accumulation of about 2 feet of snow,” a Police Control Room (PCR) official told UNI over phone from Kupwara.
He said snow clearance operation was going on war footing to restore traffic to these areas, adding traffic will be resumed only after getting a green signal from officials deployed on the ground and improvement in the weather.
People in Gurez, which is surrounded by Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) from three sides, continued to suffer as the border town remained cutoff from rest of Kashmir valley since January 1. “Razdan pass, connecting Gurez, Neeru and dozens of other areas near LoC with district headquarters Bandipora, which is already covered over several feet of snow, received fresh snowfall on Saturday,” he said.
