New Delhi: 430 of 613 people who were detained under Public Safety Act (PSA) in Jammu and Kashmir since 1 August 2019 have been released, Ministry of Home Affairs informed the Parliament on Wednesday.
Minister of State (MOS) for Home G Kishan Reddy while giving details said since August 1 2019, of 613 persons including separatists, over ground workers, stone pelters and others who were detained at various points since 1 August 2019, 430 persons have been released till date.
Reddy while responding to a question of various leaders said that no one is under house detention in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
“In view of the constitutional changes effected by the Parliament with regards to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, various steps were taken in the interest of public order besides security,” he said.
Home Ministry on 11 March 2020 said that the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has reported that in order to prevent the commission of offences involving breach of peace and tranquillity, activities prejudicial to the security of the state and maintenance of public order, cumulatively 7357 persons including stone pelters, miscreants, over ground workers (OGWs), separatists etc. were taken into preventive custody since August 2019.
Out of these, 451 such persons are presently under preventive detention, which includes 396 persons under Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act (PSA).
