Kashmir’s air connectivity resumes after 4 days of suspension

Srinagar: With the improvement in weather conditions, flight operations resumed at Srinagar airport on Thursday after four days of air traffic suspension, officials said here.
Reports said the flight operations in Kashmir valley were suspended in view of the heavy snowfall and poor visibility and remained cut off from the rest of the country.
Srinagar Airport Authorities while confirming the resumption of flight operations at Srinagar Airport tweeted on their official twitter handle, “We are happy to have restored and resumed flight operation just after heavy snowfall and bad weather condition without leaving any stone related to safety parameters for aircraft operation. We welcome our esteemed passengers’ again.@Aaisnrairport @aaiRedNR@AAI_Official.”
However, the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the only road link between Kashmir and the rest of the country, continued to be remained closed for the fifth consecutive day on Thursday due to accumulation of snow, landslides and shooting stones at several places on the 270Km long Highway.
In a communiqué by Traffic Police Headquarters J&K which read, “Tomorrow on 08-01-2021, No vehicular movement shall be allowed on Jammu-Srinagar NHW from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa in view of landslides/shooting stones at Samroli, Cafeteria Morh and slippery road condition from Jawahar Tunnel to Zig (Qazigund).”
While talking about the flight operations at Srinagar Airport, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir P.K.Pole (IAS) said there were around 25 flight movements Thursday while some of the flights were cancelled because of cloudy weather and poor visibility. “The passenger safety is first priority.”
Talking about the snow clearance progress in valley he said that all the priority roads leading to Tehsil Headquarters, essential service roads leading to hospitals and roads connecting to other districts stand cleared and through for vehicular movement.
He also said that snow clearance in a few far flung areas, which received heavy snowfall, is going on with full pace.
On being asked about the clearance of snow from Lanes and By-Lanes he said that as far as the clearance of snow from lanes and by-lanes is concerned, the men are at job and he is personally monitoring the situation.
“We are prioritizing the primary roads first, within valley all roads are through for vehicle movement,” he said
