Vijaypur: Former minister and senior leader Surjeet Singh Slathia today described National Conference a mass movement and representative of marginalised segments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, saying this alone can satiate the urges and aspirations of the people.in a statement issued here said .

“People of this part of the country are craving for peace and good governance, which can be ensured by National Conference alone”, Slathia said while addressing Sarpanchs, Panchs and during the party meetings at village Chack Dayala, Burj Tanda, Rakh Brotian, Kothi, Gagore Jamorian and Kamala this afternoon.

Slathia said that times bear testimony that NC never compromised its people centric agenda and high values of secular democratic ethos. “We have braved the brunt of misinformation campaign but never let down the people who have their distinct urges and asprations”, he said and cautioned against the machinations being perpetrated by anti-people forces to weaken the party.

“They have exploited the people by raking up emotive and divisive slogans to put hurdles in the forward movement of National Conference to seek permanent peace and youth their welfare”, he said and added that these elements have neither in the past deterred National Conference nor at present will be able to do so as people fully recognize them as a spent force, who have only furthered their personal agendas.

The senior National Conference leader said that, being the peoples’ movement this party has always surmounted the challenges with resilience and fortitude at the strength of its dedicated cadre and would do so always with a sense of commitment. He exhorted the cadre to gear up for challenges unfolded by the divisive elements and help in retaining the sheen of Jammu and Kashmir, which is a repository of unity and tranquility. He also urged them to fan out in their respective areas and help in building a society based on trust, love and compassion. Slathia expressed concern over attempts being made to vitiate the political atmosphere and said politics of hate and intolerance is a real threat to democracy that is needed to be fought collectively by the democratic forces. He urged the people, especially the youth to play their designated role in steering J&K to peace, prosperity and development. For this they will have to vote and support the National Conference candidates with thumping majority to make the grass roots level democratic institutions as engine of change. “Your vote will be vote for development and prosperity of the people, irrespective of region, religion, caste or creed”, Slathia added.
