Srinagar: Awami National Conference (ANC) on Tuesday filed a complaint against one of the Returning Officers in Khonomh constituency after he allegedly tried to reject its candidate’s form, which was already accepted earlier in a day.
The ANC Senior Vice President Muzaffar Shah said that the party has filed a complaint at Police Station Pantha Chowk against one RO, who he identified as Dr Ashraf, saying that he attempted to reject the nomination paper of his party candidate Riyaz Ahmad Mir, which was accepted by the RO earlier in a day.
“The form of our party candidate who is contesting the DDC polls as candidate of Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) from Khonmoh-2 constituency was accepted at 12:30 PM Tuesday and all the requisite processes including acceptance letter, expenditure file and bank account opening authority letter were handed over to our candidate,” he said.
However, he said that at around 04:50 PM Tuesday, the candidate was called by the same RO and asked him to come along with his documents one more time, adding that soon after the candidate reached there, the RO tried to write not accepted in the form and also tried to write rejected in the form. “Soon after he wrote a letter ‘R’, the candidate snatched the documents from him following which the RO fled the spot,” he said.
Shah alleged all what has happened today was because of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as the ROs and others are hand-in-glove with the party. “We later went to the police at Pantha Chowk Police Station and filed a complaint in this regard,” he said, adding the candidate has been asked to visit Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office Srinagar Wednesday in this regard
