Bandipora : Unscheduled power cuts in several villages of North kashmir’s Bandipora district have irked villagers as the department has resorted to frequent power cuts with the onset of winters.

The local inhabitants of Gamroo, Arin, Kudara, Chuntimulla, Gundpora, Lowdara, CA-Khan and TA-Shah have been complaining for the last several days that major power cuts have become a norm in these villages.

They said the villages have been witnessing long power cuts and the department has not even issued any schedule.

“The power supply goes off at around 9 AM and is restored around 7 or 8 PM during the last few days.”

They also complained that around 40 villages are depended on a single feeder which is known as arin feeder.

“We have been facing a lot of problems and are reeling under darkness due to erratic power supply from the last few days. The department seems not to be bothered about the issue,” said a local resident.

They said that the students who are preparing for their annual examination have been facing a lot of problems due to long and unscheduled power cuts.

“We have to bear the brunt of long and unscheduled powere cuts as we are not able to study and prepare for our exams. During peak our the power supply remains off and the department doesnt seem to be bothered about the issue,” said a student.

Meanwhile, an official said that they have sanctioned a new receiving station for the area under DDUGJY scheme but that got delayed due to some land issue, which has now been resolved. “It is expected that the work will get started next year and hopefully will resolve the power crisis in the area,” he said.He also said that there is a possibility that the villagers will get some relief by commissioning of another receiving station at Nusso village next month.
