Milad-un-Nabi is celebrated to commemorate the birth and teachings of the holy Prophet Muhammad(SAW) on 12th of Rabi-Ul –Awal every year .As regards the meaning of Milad-Un-Nabi (SAW) the word “”Milad” has been derived from “viladut” which means birth. Therefore, according to Arabic language, Milad is word which signifies the place and time of birth. In the light of Shariah, we mean, Milad is to remember the events which took place at the birth time of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) .As such we get the opportunity of narrating the Seerat of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) on this occasion and also present the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) gifts of Durood -o- salam. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was born Arabia in the city of Mecca on the 12th day of Rabi-ul-Awwal, which was Monday the 20th day of April, 571 A.C. The occasion is celebrated by remembering the favors bestowed on the ummah (community), the first is the revelation of the Holy Quran with its instructions, the second, the institution of an everliving Guide who would advise the mu’mins (believers) according to the needs of the time. On this day every year, muslims gather to recite special prayers for thanksgiving to Allah for sending Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as a mercy to all nations, and speeches and lectures are made about the seerat (life) and instructions of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). It is done in a manner that seeks to reflect upon his ideals and follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in letter and spirit. As we observe the day, we vow to relive the legacy he left behind, one that goes beyond the simple spreading of faith and fosters brotherhood, equality and peaceful co-existence between all communities. The Holy Prophet’s (SAW’s ) association with the quotidian details of existence before he received the call from divinity is a story which is as much his as it is a shining beacon for us.
Our solemn pledge for this year’s Eid-e-Milad-Un-Nabi (SAW) should be cultivating and practicing tolerance, avoids conflicts and establish peace, and live in harmony with peoples of other faiths in accordance with the spiritual wisdom of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). As such it is important that we remain steadfast pursuit of our religion with all its spiritual values be our goal.
And then there is, of course, the huge impact Prophet Muhammad (SAW) has had on the lives of millions, on the imaginations of the generations that followed his propagation of Islam. Islam literally means peace and therefore has no place for violence and intolerance in the lives of muslims.
