Srinagar:Jammu Kashmir Awami Action Committee (AAC) senior leader Muhammad Shafi Khan addressed people on Friday at historic and central Jamia Masjid Srinagar before congregational prayers.
In a statement issued here on Friday he said that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir continues to be worrisome uncertain and intimidating as the resolution of the Kashmir issue lingers on and on.
He said that since its formation, AAC has always strived for its peaceful resolution in accordance with wishes of the people of entire J&K.
“The policy of repression pursued by those in power is unfortunate. As a consequence of this policy, AAC and Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, who is the leading religious and political leader of Kashmir, and scores of other political leaders and thousands of youth continue to languish in jails or are kept under house arrest,” he added.
Mirwaiz is under arbitrary house arrest since 5 August 2019, and is not allowed to move out and meet people and pursue his religious and political activities, Khan said.
The AAC leader, on behalf of the organization and people, stressed that as the holy and blessed month of the birth of the holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is approaching, Mirwaiz be released forthwith so that he resumes his religious responsibilities from the pulpit of the historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar and his political responsibility
