Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President and Member of Parliament from Srinagar Dr Farooq Abdullah and vice President Mr. Omar Abdullah on Tuesday greeted people on annual Urs observance of patron saint of Kashmir Hazrat Sheikh Nur Ud Din Noorani Alamdar-e-Kashmir (RA).
Party President while greeting the people said Sufism has been the mainstay of Kashmiri cultural tradition. “The Reshis brought the essence of Islamic teachings to every household by localizing it. Their teachings touch a spectrum of issues encompassing both individuals as well as the society in their fold. They talked of compassion, brotherhood and mutual respect which are the pivotal aspects of any stable society. These great men paraphrased universal values in their poetry,” he said adding, “The Reshi Mystic Thought has an innate relation with the people of Kashmir. Contribution of such Sufis as Nund Reshi and his associates to the spiritualism and humanism in Kashmir is immense. They encouraged people to live a life of piety and discipline and stressed that the real devotion of God was in the service of suffering man. These Reshis encouraged the people to love humanity and Almighty. They exhorted people to overcome pride, anger, greed, lust, and excessive involvement in worldly affairs. They used their poetic genius and saying judiciously to make the erring man understand the essence of life and spirituality. On this day I pray for everlasting peace and prosperity in the state,” he said.
Party Vice President Omar Abdullah in his message said the Nund Reshi (RA) was an epitome of truth, god consciousness, and piousness. “Hazrat Alamdar-e-Kashmir (RA) message of kindness and selflessness needs to be emulated in every aspect of life and his legacy will continue to form the bedrock of our rich cultural and spiritual inheritance. Revered Reshi’s like Hazrat Nund Reshi (RA) not just followed the principles laid down by holy Quran and hadith but also taught the same to scores of others. Reshis spearheaded a mass social movement in Kashmir following the teachings of our patron saint Sheikh Noor Ud Din Noorani (RA). These great men besides achieving higher stations in the realm of spirituality also educated common masses in their native Kahmiri language about the various facets of religion and spirituality. I pray that the auspicious day acts as harbinger of peace, prosperity and brotherhood in Kashmir,” he said.
Among others Party General Secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar, Additional General Secretary Dr Sheikh Mustufa kamal, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, Members of Parliament Muhammad Akbar Lone, Hasnain Masoodi, Senior leaders Abdul Rahim Rathar, Sakina Itoo, Central Zone President Ali Muhammad Dar, South Zone president Dr Bashir Veeri, YNC President Salman Ali Sagar, Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar have also greeted people on the Urs Observance.
