15 more people die due to COVID-19; 654 fresh cases recorded in J&K

Srinagar: A CRPF jawan was among 15 people who died due to COVID-19 during the last 24 hours in Kashmir valley, taking the death toll due to the infection to 593 in the Union Territory of J&K, where 654 new positive cases were detected on Friday.

“Srinagar continued to remain at the top in terms of new cases with 206 people tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday followed by Budgam and Jammu with 68 and 63 new cases, respectively,” an official said, adding 580 positive patients have recovered today.

Official sources said that four persons each from Srinagar and Budgam died due to COVID-19 during the last 24 hours in different hospitals. “All the patients were suffering from respiratory problems,” they said.

They said three people from Baramulla lost their live due to the virus. “One person each died due to COVID-19 in Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian and Kupwara,” they said, adding all the patients were tested positive for COVID-19 and were suffering from respiratory problems.

With these fatalities, the death toll due to COVID-19 has risen to 189 in Srinagar which is the worst affected district in J&K in terms of causalities, followed by Baramulla with 93 deaths. The number has swelled to 44 in Anantnag while Budgam crossed the half century mark today. As many as 27 people have lost their lives to the disease in Shopian and 40 in Kupwara.

The number of deaths stands at 31 in Kulgam and 42 in Pulwama. Twenty two people have lost their lives in Bandipora while Ganderbal has reported 14 fatalities so far. The number has swelled to 29 in Jammu.

Ten districts of Jammu have reported 41 fatalities while 552 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in ten districts of Kashmir.

Last week, 70 people died due to COVID-19 in J&K. As many as 76 people, mostly from Kashmir, lost their lives due to the infection between August 3 and August 9. J&K recorded the highest number of deaths in a week due to COVID-19 between July 27 and August 2 with 84 people, mostly from Kashmir, losing the battle against the disease. Sixty one people, including 57 from Kashmir and four from Jammu, lost their lives due to COVID-19 between July 20 and July 26.

Sixty five people lost their lives between July 13 and July 19 due to COVID-19 in J&K. As many as 48 patients — including 10 persons from Baramulla, 12 from Srinagar, six from Kulgam, three from Anantnag, Kupwara and Budgam, Jammu region, two each from Shopian and Ganderbal, one patient each from Pulwama, Bandipora and a BSF jawan — died due to COVID-19 between July 6 and July 12.

As many as 41 people — including nine from Srinagar, 10 from Baramulla, five each from Anantnag, three from Kulgam, Budgam and Shopian, two each from Kupwara and Bandipora, one each from Jammu and Ganderbal — died due to COVID-19 between June 29 and July 5.
