Jammu: JKERA starts work on World Bank funded Rs 54.7 crores Storm Water Drainage project in Srinagar. Project to benefit more than one lac souls in 45 residential colonies
In view of the long pending demands of the residents living in the areas which so far are not covered by existing drainage schemes in more than 45 residential colonies on both sides of National Highway bypass from various sectors of Gulshan Nagar Nowgam to Chanapora, Shah Anwar Colony , Gulberg colony, and on Srinagar Baramulla road from HMT crossing to Shalteng, J&K ERA has conceived a detailed project based on the threadbare discussion and scientific inputs provided by all the concerned stakeholders for the construction of comprehensive storm water drainage project for these uncaterred areas vulnerable to floods.
Dr.Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Chief Executive Officer JKERA/JTFRP had recently convened a series of meetings to review the preparedness of the due diligence regarding the project during which officers had been asked to immediately start work on the project.
Monday J&K Economic Reconstruction Agency started work on the construction of mega storm water project in Srinagar.Aptly called the missing links zone-1 storm water drainage scheme and estimated to cost Rs 54.7 crores the project is being executed by the J&KERA as PIU (Project Implementation Unit) for the World Bank funded JTFRP (Jhelum Tawi Flood Recovery Project) the urban flood management component of the Jhelum Tawi Flood Recovery Project to strengthen the urban flood management infrastructure in the flood vulnerable areas of the Srinagar City.
The project consists of the construction of 40.23 kms of storm water drainage network comprising of 33.435 kms of pipe drain, 4.83 kms of concrete drain and man holes having a cumulative length of 1.99 meters. However the project would not require the construction of any pumping stations and will be served by the pumping stations already constructed by J&KERA under the earlier drainage projects executed by it. With the completion time of 18 months the project will benefit more than 1. Lac souls living in 40 residential colonies in network areas and will provide the inhabitants with a much needed mechanism for the scientific disposal of storm water thus reducing the vulnerability to various communicable diseases
Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Chief Executive Officer, JKERA/JTFRP directed the officers to ensure that the project is implemented in the transparent manner as per the need assessment purely on the basis of the requirements of the project .
Dr. Abid also requested all the general public to give their valid inputs/suggestions which can be emailed at on official email [email protected] or can contact on the phone no. 9419740840.
Dr. Abid had last week chaired a meeting regarding the resumption /start of JKERA/JTFRP works in Kashmir Division after the U.T administration had issued guidelines for the resumption of developmental activities Post COVID Lockdown. He has directed the contractors and engineers to strictly adhere to the SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) like social distancing, health and hygiene measures during the execution of work on the project. J&KERA has been on the forefront for the resumption of developmental activates as it is bound to have a positive impact on the restoration of the economic activity and generation of employment opportunities in the post COVID scenario overshadowed by the economic recession.
The areas to be benefited under the project include Bagh-I-Islam, Gulshan Nagar -1, Chanapora, Bagh-e-Mehtab, Gousia colony, Wanabal,Shanker pora, Nowgam, Railway colony,Majid colony chanapora, canal Avenue, Rawalpora, Rawalpora Bund, Hakeem Bagh, Parbagh Iddgah, Peer Bagh bridge to Alamdar colony, Umarabad sector C,Peerbagh, Green Avenue Enclave, Jawahar colony Hyderpora, Sanat Nagar chowk to Chanapora bridge along service road ,Gulberg Colony sector 1&2 , Shah Anwar colony lane 1,D,D1 and F, Ibrahim colony Parray pora, Bemina Chowk to Qamarabad including Hamza colony, Iqbalabad ,Tatoo Ground, Qamarabad colony Bemina,Sidique colony Bemina, Fruit mandi left out area, areas on the Srinagar-Baramulla road from HMT crossing to Noora Hospital (Shlateng).
