Talking to Kashmir Horizon ,Dr Tasaduk said, “Smoking Tobbaco is the crucial cause of diseases of almost all organ systems of the human body most common being Lung Cancers, Stroke and Heart Diseases. The rising incidence of lung cancer in the state is mostly attributed to Smoking Tobbaco.”

“Chewing tobacco use is a risk factor for the development of oral cancers , gum disease, tooth decay and tooth loss, and have possible links to other cancers and cardiovascular diseases as well”, he said

He said that on 31 May i.e, World No Tobbaco Day people should make a commitment to completely abstain from using Tobbaco in any form. This year’s theme is protection of younger generations, focusing on “Protecting youth from industry manipulation and preventing them from tobacco and nicotine use .”

He further added that as per recent research studies by WHO & World Heart Federation, “Cardiovascular disease kills more people than any other cause of death worldwide, and tobacco use and second-hand smoke exposure contribute to significant percentage of heart disease deaths. Tobacco use is also the second leading cause of Coronary Vascular Diseases, after high blood pressure.”

He said that despite knowing the harms of tobacco to lung health, and the availability of solutions to reduce related death and disease, knowledge among large sections of the public that tobacco is one of the leading causes of severe respiratory diseases and lung cancer is low. ”

“There is a dire need to held more awareness public campaigns to sensitize the society towards the ill effects of smoking tobacco on human body and its prevention”,he added.
