SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 17: Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Dr. Basharat Qayoom, today inspected the animal welfare facility at Tengpora, reviewed the ongoing construction of the animal welfare facility at Chaterhama and took stock of the construction of the Modern Abattoir at Aloochibagh, underscoring the Corporation’s commitment to strengthening animal welfare infrastructure, improving civic facilities and ensuring efficient public service delivery.

During the visit to Tengpora, the Commissioner reviewed the overall functioning, maintenance and upkeep of the animal welfare facility. He directed the concerned officers to ensure proper sanitation, cleanliness, regular maintenance and systematic upkeep of the premises, with particular emphasis on maintaining hygienic conditions, ensuring functional infrastructure and providing a suitable environment for the animals. He stressed that the facility must be maintained to high standards, with regular monitoring and prompt resolution of maintenance-related issues.

At Chaterhama, the Commissioner reviewed the progress of the ongoing construction of the animal welfare facility and assessed the execution of the project. He directed the concerned engineers and executing agencies to maintain strict adherence to prescribed quality standards, ensure proper workmanship and expedite the remaining works without compromising structural quality or functional requirements. He emphasised the importance of completing the facility within the stipulated timeline so that the infrastructure can be made available for its intended purpose at the earliest.

The Commissioner also inspected the under-construction Modern Abattoir at Aloochibagh, reviewing the status of the project and the quality of ongoing construction. He directed the concerned officers to closely monitor execution, ensure compliance with approved specifications and maintain accountability at every stage of implementation. He stressed that the modern facility must be developed with due attention to hygiene, sanitation, operational efficiency and prescribed standards for safe and scientific slaughterhouse operations.

Emphasising the importance of both infrastructure development and sustained maintenance, Dr. Basharat observed that the creation of modern civic facilities must be complemented by effective upkeep, regular supervision and adherence to established operational standards. He called upon the concerned officers to ensure that ongoing projects are executed efficiently, public assets are properly maintained and all facilities remain fit for their intended use.

The Commissioner reiterated that SMC remains committed to strengthening animal welfare infrastructure and upgrading essential civic facilities through quality-driven project execution, timely completion and improved maintenance mechanisms. He directed the concerned officials to maintain close oversight of the projects and ensure that the prescribed standards of quality, cleanliness and functionality are consistently upheld.

The Commissioner was accompanied by the Joint Commissioner, Administration, SMC; Joint Commissioner, Works, SMC; Executive Engineers from the Mechanical, Electric, Water Works and Civil Divisions; Divisional Forest Officer; Municipal Veterinary Officer; and other officers of Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
