Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir High Court has sought status report from the government of Jammu and Kashmir after a PIL was filed about the lack of facilities including non-availibilty of life saving drugs, ventilators and other facilities in Kupwara district to fight Covid-19 pandemic.
Division Bench of High Court comprising of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Rajnesh Oswal, while hearing an intervention application regarding COVID-19 control measures in district Kupwara sought status report from the government.
The entire proceedings in the matter were conducted through video conferencing and video calls. The pertaining to spread of COVID-19 was filed by advocate Mir Mansoor hailing from Kupwara on 14th April in which he had raised issues confronting the district in fighting Covid-19.
Advocate Mansoor told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that he appraised the court about the non-availability of life saving drugs, lack of ventilators and other facilities to contain deadly Coronavirus in the district.
He has also sought the intervention of high court for shutting down all units of SDH Kupwara including Gynae and dialysis and the problems thereof faced by the people while reaching other health institutions.
In the PIL he has also pleaded for immediate financial assistance and supply of essential commodities to the down trodden sections of society including people living under below poverty line, Gujjar, Bakerwal and families affected by cross border shelling in areas like Panzgam, Tamunia and Chowkibal.
Meanwhile, hearing the matter under the division bench had earlier directed the department of health and medical education to make available adequate equipments of every kind for health care workers and all other personnel involved in combating COVID-19. The next hearing in the matter will be held on 27th of April—(KNO)
