Sajid Rasool
Word abuse refers to make use of anything with an intent to produce crummy effects.Drug abuse refers to make exploitation of those drugs especially psychoactive ones in order to illicit a psychological and physiological response. This atrocious evil has inundated the whole country of India including Kashmir. Kashmiri youth are stuck in this evil in brunt. Researchers have revealed that 40% of adults in Kashmir are trapped in this heinous act and it is escalating in jiffy. In spite of witnessing this evil we should try to overcome this. There are plenty of reasons which compel an individual to engage himself/herself in this evil. The root cause is a psychological stress. This stress can be of any origin. It might be due to environmental disturbance (most predominant cause), socio-economic status of an individual, unemployment or lack of safety and security. Resolving these causes can help us to resolve the evil. Another exigent and crucial factor which forces a child to reside in this evil is lack of love and care from his caregivers. An adult gets all the characters of his peer group as he mimics the behaviour of majority of its members. So an adult can sink in this evil if his peer group is involved. I am writing this article because i have seen a lot of alluring and charming youngsters who are fixed in this vicious activity. It not only spoils their health but it too has catastrophic effects on society. It makes an individual wild and uncivilized. He/she hardly can differentiate between right and wrong. Everyone in the society feels that the person has become manic/ lunatic. With the rise in modernization this evil also spreads with an extreme intensity. The question is why? May be the children are given more freedom. people of upper class usually business men are engaged in drawing worldly possessions and hardly give much concern toward their children. Apart from this nuclear family norm is preferred over joint family. In small family children are given flexibility beyond the limit while as in joint family all members are restricted and are under the control of their elders, this impedes them from getting trapped in such troublesome activities. Most common drugs abused are cocaine and heroin. These drugs have detrimental effects mainly on heart, lungs, liver etc. These produce sedation thus forcing a person to go in an unconscious state. Once a person gets addicted to these drugs, it becomes quite arduous for him to get himself rid of this. It destroys the cognitive ability of a person and also spoils his/her precious time. Apart from this, the incidence of getting fatal disease like HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C is high in them because of sharing contaminated needles. It not only destroys his/her physiological and psychological health but also destroying person’s social, traditional, religious aspect of life as well. Drug abuse can develop in an individual
1.If the drug fulfills a valuable need ,a person finds himself increasingly relying on it.He may take illegal drugs to calm or energize himself or make himself more confident.
2. Drug abuse can start as a way to socially connect. People often try drugs for the first time in social situations friends and acquaintances and thus they become habitual of it.
3. At first it becomes a voluntary choice and it then turns into psychological and physical dependence.
Parents should give adequate time to their children and should approach them in an affable manner so that they could unwrap every event which might force them to indulge in this evil in future.

Eventually it can consume one’s life, stopping social and mental development. This only reinforces feelings of isolation. In order to keep this vicious activity in check we should work coordinately and in an impartial manner. Parents should give adequate time to their children and should approach them in an affable manner so that they could unwrap every event which might force them to indulge in this evil in future. Government should organise programs in the view of providing awareness about the ill effects of this evil and how to keep it under check? Affected individuals should be immediately admitted in the de-addiction centers for their effective treatment. Apart from this we should make availability of counseling centers where an expert should counsel these victims and guide them in a right path. Lack of solicitude towards a person suffering from this evil can also accelerate the individuals to involve themselves in this activity let’s take an example of our society; if someone gets a minute infection we take him to doctor in a moment. Likewise if someone gets trapped in drug addiction we intentionally detain that person from our vicinity. In spite of detaining that person we should provide more attention towards him/her in order to assist him/her to get himself/herself back from this evil. So we should put our abilities to use in order to ward off or prevent escalation of this awful activity so that our coming generation will be prosperous.
