Srinagar: In the last three decades the first ever elections of Kashmir Press Club were held in Srinagar on Monday in which senior journalist Shuja-ul-Haq was unanimously elected as the president.
For scribes this election was of greater significance because it was held after the gap of 30 long years. Besides Shuja-ul-Haq, Moazam Muhammad was elected as vice president while as Ishfaq Ahmad Tantray was elected as General Secretary and Farooq Javed as Treasurer.
Talking to reporters chief election commissioner senior journalist Manzoor Anjum said that by conducting the free and fair polls of such a level, the scribes of Kashmir have proved beyond doubt that they shall remain in the forefront to strengthen the institutions of democracy and fair play. He congratulated the winners and wished them good luck for the future endeavors.
The scribes working in various news organisations have expressed hope that the new elected body will work earnestly for the overall welfare of Kashmir’s journalistic fraternity.
