Srinagar: At least six inmates were injured inside the Kupwara district jail on Thursday in a scuffle after which the jail authorities separated them and lodged them in different cells.
Two inmates suffered injuries who were sent to the hospital for first aid, top officials in the Prisons department said.
Sources told Kashmir News Observer that six inmates sustained injures during intense clashes inside the district jail Kupwara after they fought with each other over some issue.
“Soon after the incident, the jail superintendent and the station house officer concerned entered into the jail to take stock of the issue. Those who had entered into a dual were segregated and two prisoners, who sustained minor injuries, were referred to district hospital for treatment,” Director General of Prisons V K Singh said.
He said that there was nothing to worry as situation was very much under control. Meanwhile, the relatives of prisoners lodged in Kupwara district jail got worried after hearing the news about the incident but they were not allowed to meet the inmates inside the jail.
“We are worried. We tried to contact the jail authorities to meet our dear ones, but we were refused meeting,” said a family member, whose son is lodged in Kupwara district jail.
