Locals protest against army for thrashing youth in Rafiabad

Srinagar: Protest erupted in Laser village of Rafiabad against Army of 32 RR Rafiabad after the troopers thrashed two youth allegedly for not casting their votes.
Reports said that a large number of people of Laser village took to the streets this afternoon and staged a protest against the Army for thrashing two boys, Bilal Ahmad Rather and Tariq Ahmad Rather.
Both were shifted to a hospital for further treatment, reports said. Locals said that Army men stopped their vehicle and checked their fingers and questioned them why they didn’t not votes in elections. They started beating them, resulting in injuries to them.
This triggered protests and locals blocked the Baramulla-Kupwara road. Meanwhile, a police team reached the spot but the protest was going on. Army officer however refuted the allegations, terming it as ‘baseless’.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sopore Javid Iqbal said that Army men stopped their car but two youth responded ‘aggressively’ following which Army thrashed them. However, he said that they have started investigation in this regard.
Baning civilian traffic on Kashmir highway, “murder of democray” : Najeeb Naqvi
Srinagar: Senior Political activist and Independent candidate from Baramulla Parliamentary constituency Najeen Naqvi on Saturday said banning movement of civilian traffic on national highway is murder of democracy. In a statement issued on Saturday Naqvi said that banning civilian movement on national highway has multiplied the increasing woes of general public and the people are suffering badly as no traffic movement is being allowed on highway. He said restrictions on civilian traffic on Srinagar-Jammu highway has gripped chaos among general masses ,patients ,students, business establishment’s and other movements has seized to move in a world’s highest democratic set up which is run by political dictators while claiming to be the champions of democracy.
Alleging that the fundamental rights are being suppressed by those administrators who took such decisions and are hell bent upon to implement it on ground, Naqvi said the authorities responsible for enforcing the unwise don’t care for the basic and fundamental rights of people. ‘To ease out their own problems such decisions are being taken in conflict with the public sentiments and right to travel .Instead tackling the situation in a better way people are being jailed for two days in a week’, lamented Naqvi.
