Srinagar: J&K Forest Department Saturday organized a plantation drive in the campus of Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura.
The program was organized by Urban Forestry Division, Srinagar in collaboration with SKIMS administration.
During the drive about 100 saplings of Deodar species were planted in main lawns of the institute and about 1200 Poly saplings would be planted in the different lawns and on the boundaries of the institute. The Poly saplings were provided free of cost by the J&K Forest Department (Territorial) as part of Greening of Health care Institutions under Institutional Planting Program.
Dr Umer Javaid Shah, Director SKIMS lauded the efforts of Forest Department and said these efforts will have a positive impact on patient health care.
It was also decided that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be inked with the Forest Department for Development of Medicinal Plant gardens, besides raising a herbal garden.
Conservator of Forests, Srinagar Forest Circle Irfan Ali Shah briefed about the plantation programs undertaken by the Forest department in Kashmir Region including Zaberwan, Hariparbath, Baltal, Tosamaidan, Chandanwari and Langate Special Projects, besides Chinar Conservation Project.
The program was attended by Additional Director SKIMS, DFO Urban Forestry Division Riyaz Gul, professors, faculty members, and other concerned.
