Srinagar: Upping the ante at the Prime Minister over his silence on alleged harassment of Kashmiris, including students, in different parts of the country post Pulwama attack, National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah asked Narendra Modi to speak out against these systematic attacks.
“Dear PM @narendramodi Sahib, can we please have a few words of condemnation for the systematic attacks directed against Kashmiri students & others or does your concern not extend as far north as Kashmir?” Mr Abdullah, who is the former chief minister of J&K, wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
Meanwhile, reacting to swift action taken by West Bengal government after a video in which a Kashmiri youth could be seen being beaten up by a mob in Kolkota, went viral on social media, Mr Abdullah thanked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
“The young man being beaten has also been contacted by the (WB) administration and is being looked after. (I) am grateful for the swift response @MamataOfficial didi,” he twitted.
Mr Abdullah had earlier said that he was in contact with Ms Banerjee, who has assured sift action against the culprits. “Having seen the video doing the rounds on social media of a young Kashmiri man being beaten up in Kolkata I’ve been in touch with @derekobrienmp & @MamataOfficial regarding the matter. The culprits have been identified & strongest possible action has been assured,” he had twitter.
The NC Vice President also thanked Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for ensuring safety and security of Kashmiris in his state. “This cartoon is very apt. The Sikh sangat has gone above & beyond the call of duty in reaching out & helping Kashmiris in distress, whether in Jammu or outside the state. A special thanks to @capt_amarinder Sahib for his statesmanship in ensuring security & safety for Kashmiris,” Mr Abdullah said.
“No reasonable, rational Kashmiri has ever justified the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990. In fact most have condemned it & said Kashmir is incomplete without pandits. Yet in some sick minds targeting Kashmiri Muslims is justified because of what Kashmiri Pandits had to endure,” he added.
Several attack on Kashmiris, including students were reported in Jammu and other parts of the country in the backdrop of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) fidayeen attack that left 40 CRPF men dead on Srinagar-Jammu national highway in south Kashmir district of Pulwama last week.
