Many people have problems with the word Charity, because they may think, in the right sense, that NGO’s, Trusts and Civil Societies etc as they prefer calling them, really do take the work of moral and social responsibilities, which ought to be taken on by the Government and concerned administrations.
Rarely, once in a month, it would not be, but frequently the headlines of print and videos in social media catches the attention of readers / viewers and compels them to speak that its pity on administration’s legitimate duties and responsibilities.
These trusts, squarely have taken all over responsibilities, such as, promotion of Educational Institutions imparting quality education as per the need of hour, rendering services in the field of education, providing medical relief and relief to the poor, awakening the general public about the number of Govt. sponsored schemes and policies and strengthening communal harmony through conducting programmes and camps.
It cannot be escaped to mention here that these non-governmental organizations and trusts are collectively arranging to donate the blood and organising numerous Blood Donation camps. All such legitimate duties ought to be taken on by the Government or respective Administrative and medical quarters of the state but Government has turned a deaf ear to the issues and problems being faced by the common man.
It is strongly criticised by the public and effected ones, the administration for “failing” to provide relief and help to thousands of people stranded due to the disastrous snow fall and land sliding on Jammu Srinagar Highway but the trust is who somehow arranged the “Langar” for stranded passengers on 10th of February.
There are several registered trusts across the state but the name of SHAHEEN Trust is here being quoted just to make the administrative, medical and educational sectors ashamed of dereliction from their responsibilities.
Hats off; how the volunteers of the SHAHEEN trust, having social conscience, have worked in a smooth way, after it came in to the existence in couple of months back and got registered in Feb 2019.
Precisely, the volunteers donated and arranged blood for 102 patients in Jammu, Srinagar, Ludhiana and Chandigarh, opened a coaching institute where 20 students took admission, sent 4 necessitous and desirous candidates including one girl for free coaching for competitive exams, donated Books and Notebooks among 32 orphan students, provided plenty of Food kits, facilitated Medical kits among poor people and orphans and Three orphan daughters whose guardians were not in a position to afford their wedding, trust arranged all things and bared the expenses of the wedding, voluntarily. The aim of Trust is to get as many daughters as possible every year, married happily without any sacrifice from their or their family member’s side.
The trust provided winter kits including jackets, sweaters, warmers etc among 26 orphan students studying at KHF Vidhata Nagar Jammu
Indeed, to serve for others without any reward or self interest is the rent we pay in lieu of being tenants on earth but overall responsibility is of the Government to look after the needy citizens who are facing hardships and to extend the monetary help to these non-governmental organizations and encourage them at least by way of appreciation.
