Srinagar: After fresh landslides in the Banihal-Ramban area the Srinagar-Jammu highway continues to remain shut for the third consecutive day on Saturday, said the traffic police officials overseeing the movement of traffic on the highway.
‘ The road clearance operation is continuing in the Banihal-Ramban area and any decision to reopen the road will be taken after the road clearance operation is over keeping in view the safety of the travelers , the traffic police officials said.
Meanwhile reports said hundreds of oil tankers stranded on the highway are waiting for the resumption of the traffic on the highway.
Nearly 3,000 more vehicles, mostly trucks, have been parked at safer places on the Qazigund-Banihal track of the highway.
Closure of the highway has resulted in shortages of essential supplies in the valley where black marketers and hoarders .are selling essential commodities on exorbitant rates. The market checking squads of Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FSCA) department are giving field days to black marketers and hoards within hours of the closing of Jammu-Srinagar highway
