Shopian: Three militants were killed while a soldier was injured after a gunfight raged between militants and government forces in Shirmal area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday morning. Meanwhile Hizb Ul Mujahideen has paid tributes to all the three militants killed in the gunfight including Shams Ul Haq the brother of a Kashmiri IPS officer presently posted in north east.
An official said that Government Forces cordoned off Shirmal area after receiving inputs about the presence of militants in the area. As the search operation was launched, militants opened fire thus triggering a fierce encounter.
During the exchange of fire, three militants were killed who according to police official are affiliated with militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen.
During the gunfight a soldier was also injured who was immediately shifted to hospital for treatment.
Several persons were injured during clashes that erupted near gunfight sight. A couple of photojournalists also sustained pellet injuries.
Authorities suspended internet service in the district after the gunfight. Sources said that among the three slain militants one was Dr Shams-ul-Haq, the brother of an IPS officer serving in an Indian state.

Describing Dr Shams-ul-Haq as a man of character, daring and religious, the militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen Tuesday said that blood of martyrs will show its color one day.
Dr Shams-ul-Haq and his two associates were killed in a fierce gunfight at Shirmal area of Shopian district on Tuesday.
As per a statement to local news gathering agency CNS, the Hizb chief Syed Salahuddin said that nobody will be allowed to compromise with the blood of those budding youth who are making sacrifices of their lives for Kashmir Freedom Movement.
“The sacrifices rendered by Kashmiris will be written in golden letters in the annals of history. The fourth generation of Kashmir is daringly taking on the enemies,” Salahuddin said.
The outfit Deputy Chief Saifullah Khalid and Field Operational Commander Muhammad Bin Qasim while paying tribute to slain militants said that Dr Shams-ul-Haq was an asset to this Freedom Movement.
