Meeting for acquiring artifacts, antiquities for SPS Museum Srinagat, Kargil Museum held

Srinagar: Director Archives, Archaeology and Museums, Munir-ul-Islam today chaired a meeting of State Level Purchase Committee of Art and Antiquities for acquiring artifacts, antiquities for SPS Museum and Kargil Museum.
The other members of the committee include Deputy Secretary to Government department of Culture, Jammu and Kashmir State, Deputy Director Archives Archaeology and Museums Srinagar, Assistant Director, Archives Archaeology and Museums Srinagar, Curator SPS Museum Srinagar, Accounts officer , Directorate of Accounts & Treasuries Kashmir and Assistant Professor cum Curator Centre of Central Asian Museum Kashmir University.
On this occasion, the Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums made the first phases of its annual art and antiquities purchase for its SPS Museum Srinagar and an upcoming museum at Kargil.
Earlier the department had moved a special appeal and notification to this effect, wherein an appeal was made to the public in general and to the artifact and antique holders in particular, to collect their respective artifacts relevant to the themes, in SPS Museum Srinagar, either for donations or for sale to the department. There was a positive response to this appeal and several artifacts and antiquities were collected in the SPS Museum Srinagar.
In today’s meeting number of antiquities on Kashmiri Art, Archaeology, Calligraphy, textile and folk art were acquired by the department.
As a special drive three more meetings will be held in the month of January, February and March 2019. The special drive for acquiring of artifacts related to Jammu and Kashmir Art, especially pertaining to the regional arts of Kargil district would continue and people who are in possession of such artifacts as already notified in previous notifications are requested to deposit their items in the SPS Museum Srinagar, Antiquities office at Leh, Chief Executive officer LAHDC, Kargil and Dogra Art Museum Jammu against the proper receipt.
