Jammu : Senior BJP leader and treasurer Chander Mohan Gupta is likely to be the new Mayor of Jammu while woman leader Purnima Sharma may be his deputy.
“The names of Chander Mohan Gupta and Purnima Sharma have almost been stamped as new Mayor and Deputy Mayor respectively while an official announcement is yet to be made in days,” party sources told UNI on Thursday.
They said that Mr Gupta is a senior leader and was appointed as treasurer in July.
Ms Sharma is former J&K BJP Mahila Morcha president.
The civic bodies polls were held in the state after a gap of 13 years.
BJP also had first-ever Mayor in its kitty from Jammu followed by Congress and NC having Mayor and Deputy Mayor in the next term.
Mr Gupta won as corporator from Ward Number 33 for second time and Ms Sharma has won from Ward Number 1 in the recently-concluded Urban Local Bodies polls.
BJP in Jammu Municipal Corporation won 43 seats out of 75 wards while in Municipal Committees of the district, the party won 48 seats.
