Shutdown hits normal life across Kashmir, mobile internet services not restored yet

Srinagar: A complete shutdown called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani the Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman, Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq the Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman and Mohammad Yasin Malik the JKLF Chairman and restrictions imposed by law enforcing authorities hit normal life on Thursday across Kashmir. While district administration Srinagar has announced the suspension of class works in schools and College across Srinagar the summer capital today on Friday, the Kashmir University too has announced the suspension of class work today,i.e, Friday
Law enforcing authorities have imposed restriction in several old city parts restrictions to prevent protests against the killing of two militants and the owner of a house owner during a gunfight in Fateh Kadal on Wednesday this week. All shops and other business establishments are closed in Srinagar while public transport is off the roads. Reports of shutdown have also been received from other parts of Kashmir valley. The authorities restored 2G mobile internet services but 4G mobile internet services continue to remain barred in the summer capital Srinagar.
Officials in Srinagar said class work will remain suspended in all colleges and higher secondary schools of Srinagar district today on Friday adding that “the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure” to avoid law and order situation in the Srinagar district in view of protests called by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL). The authorities of Kashmir University have also announced the suspension of class work today on Friday. A university spokesman said the decision has been taken to avoid law and order situation in the varsity. Earlier on Thursday, massive protests erupted on the campus against the killing of student-turned-militant in a shootout with the government forces in southern Pulwama district. Separatist groups have called for protests after Friday prayers tomorrow against “growing repression”.
