Srinagar, Sep 27: A civilian was Thursday morning killed during cordon and search operation (CASO) in Qamarwari area of uptown Srinagar.
A police official said “following inputs about the presence of militants in Qamarwari area in the outskirts of Srinagar the government forces in the wee hours launched a cordon and search operation during which some gun shots were fired and a civilian identified as Mohammad Saleem Malik son of Mohammad Yaqoob Malik was killed.”
Meanwhile law enforcing authorities imposed curfew in old parts of Srinagar city to thwart attempts of protests against the civilian killing. The mobile internet service has been suspended in the twin districts of Srinagar and Budgam. Heavy deployments of government forces are keeping a strong vigil outside government colleges in uptown Srinagar as a precautionary measure.
