Traffic again suspended on Srinagar-Jammu NH; Leh, Mughal roads open

Srinagar:The traffic was again suspended on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, due to landslides and shooting stones, triggered by heavy rain in Ramban and Udhampur districts.
However, the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway and historic Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region, are through for traffic despite rain.
A traffic police official told UNI that traffic was again suspended on the Kashmir highway this morning due to multiple landslides, triggered by rain at Udhampur and shooting stones in Ramban in Jammu region. “It is still raining heavily in these areas on the highway,” he added.
He said once the weather improves Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway, will pressed into service sophisticated machines and men to clear the landslides and put through the highway. “Traffic will be allowed only after a green signal is received from BRO and traffic police officials posted at different places, including Ramban and Udhampur,” he added.
Traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway was allowed to ply on Monday evening after remaining suspended for over nine hours due to landslides triggered by heavy rain in Ramban stretch.
Meanwhile, despite rain, the historic 86-km-long Mughal road, connecting Shopian with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region, was through for traffic.
Similarly, traffic on Srinagar-Leh national highway, the only road linking Ladakh region with Kashmir, was also plying normally.
