Srinagar: A youth from a well-to-do family having access to power corridors was shot dead by Central Reserve Police Force personnel after he allegedly entered into the official residence of of former chief ministers Farooq Abdullah and son Omar Abdullah at Bhatandi Jammu.
During the time of incident, the father-son duo were not present in the house.
The deceased was identified as Murad Ali Shah of the border district of Poonch who ran a shop near Jammu Railway Station.
When contacted SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta said that before entering into the residence of Farooq Abdullah, the victim had met an accident near Chinani where a police case was lodged against him.
“He was not carrying any weapon. It was only a case of forced entry into a VIP area and he smashed the lobby area and attacked the CRPF also,” he claimed.
The SSP further said that said the man had a scuffle with the duty officer before he entered the house, injuring the security officer.
However, the locals claimed that the said youth was usually seen entering into the VVIP’s houses earlier before. “Shah belonged to a well-to-do family with great political connections,” they said.
Locals and the family of the deceased termed it as a cold blooded murder and demanded thorough enquiry.
The man’s father later lashed out at Government Forces for his son’s death.
“I want to know why he was killed. Where were the security guards when he breached the gate? Why didn’t they arrest him?” questioned the victim’s father.
The incident created ripples and anger among Muslim community in Jammu. “He was killed because he was a Muslim. He was not a militant but a citizen of this State,” yelled her sister who tried to enter into the residence of Abdullah’s but was pushed back.
The family members demanded that CCTV footage should be made public. “We want to know what his crime was and why he was shot dead. Shortly after the incident, police defended the killers, which is unfortunate and intriguing.
The family members blocked Chinore Chowk demanded punishment to the killers. They termed the police version a ‘cooked’ one and said all efforts are being made to save the culprits.
Omar Abdullah said initial reports suggest the intruder was able to gain entry through the front door and in to the upper lobby of the house.
Director General of Police, SP Vaid, said a case has been registered and an enquiry is being conducted into the breach of security.
“He was warned but he didn’t listen to the warning of CRPF security guard posted in the gate,” the Central Reserve Police Force said in a statement.
