Thregam shuts on day 3 against killing of youth

Srinagar: Thregam area of South Kashmir’s Kupwara district observed shutdown for the consecutive third day against the killing of a shopkeeper at the hand of army soldiers.
Reports said that all the shops and other business establishments remained closed while public and private transport also remained off the roads. However there were no restrictions or Forces deployments in the area.
Reports said that a couple of women were fainted after Forces fired tear-smoke shells to disperse protesting youth. Locals alleged police targeted women who were collecting water from a well, a charge refuted by SSP Kupwara who said that protesters had blocked to road and were not allowing any movement. Police exercised restraint and fired a couple shells to disperse them.
Locals said that they hospitalized two women in the hospital where were fainted due to intake of excessive tear-smoke.
Pertinently, on Wednesday Khalid Gaffer Malik son of Abdul Gafar Malik, a resident of Trehgam was killed after army soldiers resorted to firing to disperse a few stone pelting youth.
Authorities have announced a probe into the killing of Khalid.
Meanwhile, low speed internet services (2G) was restored in Kupwara district on Saturday.
