Srinagar: Undoing one of the most popular decisions of previous Mehbooba led PDP-BJP government, the Vohra administration has detached thousands of ReT and general line teachers deployed on marriage and health grounds during last two years of coalition rule in the state.
The decision taken by the Vohra administration in haste has resulted in family dislocation of thousands of teachers deployed on marriage grounds and is likely to cause huge conveniences to teachers deployed on health grounds.
A legion of aggrieved teachers said that surprisingly the government has not given them even an opportunity to bring to the notice of the heads of the institutions and district chiefs of the education department their compulsions in going back to their original places of posting.
They said “the decision is likely to hit the academic activities in schools in mid season as most of the teachers were deployed to ensure availability of teachers in specific subjects in schools. Even if government had to detach the teachers, the decision should not have been taken at a time when there are more than three months to go for the completion of academic season.”
Ironically the government has even detached even the +2 lecturers which can hugely disturb the schedule of syllabus completion in the higher classes particularly class 10, class 11 and class 12.
Meanwhile, ground reports indicate that additional charge of more than three schools is held by a single principle, headmaster but the government even after the imposition of Governor’s rule has not addressed the issue properly.
A top government official said “since the order for detaching teachers has been issued by the Governor, the officers in the school education directorate and district education offices acted in a haste to relieve the deployed teachers immediately and consequently the working in government schools is likely to take a big hit in the coming days.”
President J&K teachers forum Abdul Qayoom Wani when contacted said “the teachers were deployed to ensure availability of teachers in specific subjects where teachers were not available to teach some subjects. The government had introduced Kashmiri language in higher classes and teachers with masters degree in Kashmiri were deployed in higher secondary schools and now they have been detached only to make Kashmiri teachers unavailable in higher secondary schools. Similarly the teachers were not available in some schools in some other specific subjects and the previous government had deployed teachers to ensure availability of teachers in specific subjects in the schools. J&K Teachers forum urged Governor and his advisors tom review the decision and take lenient views on reversing the detachment of teachers deployed on health and marriage grounds and for teaching specific subjects.”
