The internet facility was suspended on Saturday following the killing of three civilians in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
The suspension of the services has badly impacted thousands of students, job aspirants and those users who avail the service for studies, e-commerce and banking.
Job aspirants who want to apply for different openings in government or private sector across the world are aghast with the administration for suspending the facility.
“From last three days, I am not able to access internet. So, I don’t have any information about the status of the job I had applied for in a multinational company in New Delhi. I may miss an opportunity of working. And all this is because of suppressive attitude of the government,” Junaid Ahmad, a job aspirant from Anantnag said.
A student from Shopian said that the students like him are not able to apply for scholarships and other academic opportunities due to internet ban.
He said that they are not able to apply for different jobs applications through SSC, UPSC or other recruiting agencies due to the ban. “We demand authorities to restore the services immediately in our districts so that the sufferings will come to an end.”
“It is sheer injustice and curbing of Right to Freedom and Speech by shutting down the internet. The internet is not being suspended in part of the world. Astonishingly, internet ban is an easy and suppressive tool of the administration in our state, especially in Pulwama district,” he said.
“Ban on internet is another form of oppression. Protests erupt during and after encounters despite internet shutdown. It does not create any difference,” the locals from South Kashmir said.
Police officials in the districts say the decision of suspending internet services was taken at the higher level. (KNS)
