On Mirwaiz’s direction, Hurriyat (M) leaders visit Shujaat Bukhari’s residence

Srinagar: On the directions of Hurriyat (M) chairman and Awami Action Committee (AAC) chief, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a high level APHC delegation comprising partyr’s General secretary and Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Moulana MS Rehman Shams, Muhammad Yousuf Bhat and Ishtiyaq Ahmed visited Keeri, Pattan to take part in the congregational Fateh prayers of slain journalist and Rising Kashmir editor in chief, Syed Shujaat Bukhari and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family especially late shujaats elderly father, Syed Rafiudin Bukhari.
According to the statement issued to KNS, the delegation conveyed the condolence message of APHC chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to the bereaved family.
Speaking on the occasion, Moulana M S Rehman Shams stated that Shujaat was a great and noble soul whose work and contribution as a journalist intellectual and social activist never be forgotten.
He termed Shujaat as a humble, people friendly and sober person who spent his entire life raising genuine public issues be it political social or cultural through his writings and speeches highlighting his great concern for the people of Kashmir.
He said that the death of Shujaat has created a big void in the Kashmir’s journalism which is difficult to fill.
On the occasion, special prayers were held for late Shujaat Bukhari, while as on the eve of Jumat-ul-Vida (last Friday of Ramadhan)thousands of people demanded an international probe into the killings of veteran journalist besides offering funeral prayers in absentia for the slain journalist at the historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar.
