Srinagar: Lauding the security forces for working with patience during the holy month of Ramazan when centre had announced not to initiate operation against militants, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said that decision to extend it will be taken after reviewing overall situation.
However, Mr Singh said so far the reports he has received from the state government and security agencies have been positive.
“We will review the situation before taking a decision on whether to continue with suspension of operations against militants or not,” Mr Singh told reporters during a press conference here this afternoon.
Earlier during the day, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had urged Mr Singh to extend the suspension of operation against militants. She said that this has helped children to play in fields, gardens and other parks without any fear.
However, she accused militants of trying to sabotage the Ramazan ceasefire.
He said decision not to initiate operation against militants was taken during the holy month of Ramazan. “Army, Paramilitary forces and state police personnel have worked with patience,” he said.
There were about 18 grenade attacks, including in Srinagar, besides militant attacks on Army camps at two places during this month.
Security forces in the valley, particularly in south Kashmir, were conducting daily two to three operations against militants before the ceasefire.
Mr Singh said some forces are trying to destabilize the country and these forces don’t want India to progress and achieve new heights. But, he said, despite these attempts India is moving ahead and has become fastest growing economy in the world
