Srinagar: The newspapers and periodicals being published in the Kashmir valley have been directed by the Information Department (ID) to submit their copies to monitor regularity of the publications.
Joint Director Information and Public Relations (JDIPR), Kashmir, Sajid Yahaya Naqash said that in order to ascertain publishing of approved and non approved newspapers and periodicals and also to improve upon the delivery mechanism system in this office, a need to have a system in place has been strongly felt.
He said it has been observed that the delivery mechanism of the newspapers and periodicals etc. In this office is not that strong and is hardly helpful in ascertaining the actual regularity of the publications. The office sometimes either does not receive copies of the published Newspapers and periodicals regularly or find bundles of newspapers and periodicals delivered on some single day thus defeating the very purpose of ensuring their daily publications, and maintaining regularity envisaged in the Advertisement Policy 2016.
In order therefore, to help the department monitor the regularity of the publications on a daily basis two Tin Boxes duly marked as “Approved” and “Not-Approved” have been kept in the corridor of the JDI, Kashmir at a conspicuous place which shall remain open from 0700 hrs to 1200 hrs daily. Both approved as well as those not approved shall drop their copies in respective boxes by 1200 hrs and after the expiry of deadline, the boxes shall get sealed and no delivery will be accepted thereafter. It is of note to add here that it will be sufficient group for the office to assume that the newspaper periodical has not been published on the day it was not dropped in the Boxes even if it might have been printed on that day, the order of JDIPR said.
He said so it will be in the interest of the publishers themselves to ensure the delivery In the boxes by the stipulated time to substantiate the claim of their Newspapers and Periodicals being regular.
This on one hand will ensure publications happen every day and on the other those not approved shall also have their cases for empanelment strengthened, he said.
Mr Naqash said these instructions are mainly with the purpose of strengthening the claim of both Approved and Not Approved of being regular in publishing their Newspapers and periodicals.
