Jammu: Five persons including a Border Security Forces man were killed after Pakistani troops on Friday fired at Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in RS Pura, Bishnah and Arnia sectors of Jammu and Kashmir.
Twelve persons, including a BSF officer, were also injured in the firing.
An official said an Assistant Sub-Inspector of the force had suffered a splinter injury at Pittal Border Outposts and had been admitted to a hospital.
In the heavy Pakistan shelling in R S Pura and Arnia sectors, 12 civilians were also injured and evacuated to hospitals by police in bullet-proof vehicles, a police officer said. Three civilians were injured in Arnia sector, and two in R S Pura.
The slain BSF trooper was identified as Constable Sitaram Upadhyay (28) of 192 Battalion. He was critically injured at Jabowal Border Outposts and died on way to GMC Hospital in Jammu. Upadhyay hailed from Giridih in Jharkhand and joined the force in 2011. He is survived by a three-year-old son and a one-year-old daughter.
The four civilians who lost their lives in Pakistan firing were identified as Satpal Singh, Jagmohan Kumar, Tarseem Lal and Manjit Kour.
‘Three children among 4 killed in Indian firing’, Says Pakistan
Islamabad: Pakistan on Friday said that three children are among four people killed in Indian shelling in its border areas.
Quoting from an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release, Dawn News said that “unprovoked ceasefire violations across the Working Boundary (WB) by India on Friday killed four people.”
According to the army’s media wing, the Punjab Rangers are “responding to Indian fire and targeting Indian posts which initiated fire in the Sialkot sector as intermittent fire continues.”
Quoting Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the report said that the violations took place in Pukhlian, Cahprar, Harpal, Charwah and Shakargarh sectors and identified the deceased as a woman, Kalsoom, and her three children — Mehwish, Safia and Hamza.
Earlier, India also said that four civilians and a BSF man were killed, while a dozen people were injured after Pakistan violated ceasefire in Jammu region along the International Border (IB).
