Restrictions disrupt life in parts of Srinagar

Srinagar: Life in old Srinagar city was disrupted in wake of the restrictions imposed by authorities to thwart protest against civilian killings.
The call for protest after Friday prayers was forwarded by Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.
District administration in a bid to maintain law and order had imposed restrictions in parts of old Srinagar city. A large contingent of police and Para-military troopers were deployed to maintain peace. Mobile bunkers and concertina wires had been erected to restrict the movement of people in restive parts.
Reports said that authorities disallowed Friday prayers at historic Jamia Masjid while Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house detention. Geelani was also barred from offering Friday prayers.
Reports from South Kashmir said that Pulwama and Shopian districts remained shut for the consecutive seven days against the killing of militants and civilians.
Clashes erupted in Pulwama after Friday prayers when groups of youth hit to roads at Muran Chowk and Rajpora Chowk and pelted stones on deployed Forces. The Forces personnel lobbed tear-smoke shells to disperse them.
The students at Kashmir University also staged a protest and remembered slain Assistant Professor Dr Rafi Ahmed.
